I am just standing here selling everything

This song of Phil Collins usually comes to mind whenever I see people selling wares roadside. It is not that I despise them for the filth they carry, but the defeat I see in their faces and their willingness to stand for one more day under the blazing sun. I do not see the purpose of their existence as such. Must am really amazed at the obstinacy to live for one more day. Most of the time they don't have an ambition, but at the same time they have this dire necessity for live to breathe and to eat. These are the things which keeps them alive, even at the fringes.

This photograph was taken on January 7th, 2010 at India Gate, New Delhi. The guy was selling papad.

@ Doli...Even if u are aimless u are not selling papad :P..Having said that this was not meant to be against being aimless..it is the lack of dreams..see at the guy standing, except one (or two) square meals a day what else is he gaining

@ Mridula...maybe hopefully..but what if they are letting there children beg or work with them ...

Yea, it feels so bad that they have to do all this. But you never know what are the real 'they'....I mean not all are very bechara/bechari..

They are fun to buy from when your a tourist. We sort of felt we were helping the sellers, at least they were not begging, we as a group refused to support beggars, but anyone doing something to help them selves we were all for and assisted.

A very unusual take on roadside vendors.

It might be the case that they aim to feed their family on daily basis. It might be the sole ambition of their lives. And I do not think that each and everybody take birth on this earth with big ambitions and dreams. May be they are not allowed by their circumstances to dream or aim big, as you wish to convey in this post.

@Sowmya Its my Point of View ;)... lets not generalize it but in most of the cases it exists..

@Shubhra...Can making your children work can be attributed to circumstances...
